An Introduction to British Art

This friendly two-hour session will help you take your first steps into the world of British art. We’ll explore how British artists have responded to their world through different styles and mediums. Along the way, we’ll look at different materials, techniques and ways of seeing, all in a relaxed and supportive space.

What will this course cover?

You’ll explore a range of British artworks and learn how to spot the elements that bring them to life - such as colour, light, composition and subject matter. We’ll look at how artists have reflected changes in society, culture and identity across the centuries.

What will I get out of this course?

You’ll gain new ways of looking at art and feel more confident in visiting galleries or discussing art with others. This session offers a gentle introduction to British visual culture and may spark an interest in learning more.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills or experience?

This course is ideal for beginners or anyone curious about British art. You don’t need any previous experience or specialist knowledge, just an interest in learning something new. It’s also a great starting point for engaging in cultural studies.

What do I need to bring with me?

You don’t need any special equipment. You’re welcome to bring a pen and notebook if you’d like to take notes or jot down ideas.
