Overview

Inside the mind and music of an electronic music icon

Room 376 (Moore) - Chip Davis Technology Suite

Join us for an exclusive seminar with Artist, DJ, and creative powerhouse, Matthew Dear.

Dear is a Michigan alum and pioneering electronic artist whose two-decades-plus career spans acclaimed solo work, his techno alias Audion, and collaborations across music, art, and major global brands.

He began his career as an undergraduate at UofM, where he became the founding artist on the then-emerging Ghostly International label while immersing himself in Detroit’s late-’90s warehouse scene. Dear has released influential albums, toured internationally, and collaborated with artists including Tegan and Sara, Protomartyr, and Ricardo Villalobos, with remix and production work for MGMT, Spoon, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and more.

His creative partnerships extend to companies like General Electric, Microsoft, and Ford, and he regularly leads workshops exploring music creation, technology, and artistic process. Dear also spent several years as a lecturer at the University of Michigan teaching the Recording Industry course.

Hosted by Jake Wallace in collaboration with MMBC.
