ABOUT SUCH A PRETTY PICTURE
For readers of I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy and The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Such a Pretty Picture is a candid, heart-wrenching, and ultimately hopeful memoir about child abuse, family secrets, and the healing that begins once the truth is revealed.
Andrea was four and a half when her father gave her a bath. She knew something was wrong, and when her mother walked in and saw what was happening, she passed out. Her mother woke up literally blind. Her hysterical blindness lasted weeks—her willful blindness, decades. The abuse continued, and Andrea grew up living with a secret she could not tell. At age thirty-three, a subway incident forced her past to the surface. No longer able to silence it, Andrea began the painful but necessary journey of confronting her childhood and finding her way to healing.
This brave debut offers raw honesty into a survivor’s journey. Readers will feel Andrea’s fear, pain, and shame, yet also her resilience, hope, and the truth that healing is complicated but possible.
