Description

Our next Grace Club community event will be held at the Toast Collective.

Join us for Disrupting the Narrative: An Evening of Conversation Around Empowerment.

As usual we will have beer and wine available by donation so bring some coins or small bills :) and 50% of all proceeds will benefit the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre. The Victoria Sexual Assault Centre is a feminist organization committed to ending sexualized violence through healing, education, and prevention. They are dedicated to supporting women and all Trans survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse, through advocacy, counselling, and empowerment.

We will also be collecting in-kind donations of new and gently used toiletries for the DTES Women's Centre. Please bring what you can!

Once again we have a dynamite group of women who will be sharing their experiences and telling stories of empowerment and breaking boundaries. It will be warm and welcoming - a chance to bond and share.

Featuring the following wonderful women:

Kira Daley

Kira is a Red Seal Commercial Truck & Transport Mechanic and a Certified Canadian Utility Fleet Mechanic. She has been a repeat mentor at the Skills BC Trades & Technology Conference for Women and has presented to BCIT Trades Discovery Classes and at lower mainland high schools to encourage girls and women to include trades among their career options. She worked as a mechanic for 8 years. She is now working as an Organizational Change Management Advisor and is the Vice Chair of the BC Hydro Women’s Network. She believes there’s no wrong way to be a woman. You can be tough, soft or a weird spooky jumble of both. She’s always ready to talk about what she’s learned, breaking through barriers into the “man’s world” of the trades and crashing right out the other side.

Jodie Ortega

Jodie Ortega is a Hip Hop dancer turned activist, spoken word artist, and a two time TEDx Speaker (take that, PTSD!). Her unique brand of storytelling is a mix of performance and rap presentation. Jodie is a contributor to two anthologies: “The Hero’s Journey”, Restoring Hope, Australia, and “Parenting with PTSD”, Canada/USA. Jodie was also a nominee in the 2016 Courage to Come Back Awards (Social Adversity category).

Steph Jagger

Steph Jagger is a force of nature. She believes, rather foolhardily, in the following mantra: Know Thyself, Choose Thyself, Make Shit Happen. She is an author, speaker, coach, and world record smasher who splits time between Southern California and British Columbia where she dreams big dreams, writes her heart out, and runs an executive & life coaching practice. She holds a CEC (certified Executive Coach) degree from Royal Roads University and she believes purposeful living doesn’t happen with one toe dangling in, but that we jump in, fully submerge, and sit in the juice. Think pickle, not cucumber. In 2010 she began a journey that found her walking that exact talk, or perhaps a better way of putting it would be “skiing that exact talk.” From July of that year to May of 2011 Steph chased winter around the globe. She wound up breaking the record for the most vertical feet skied in a year. Post-journey Steph penned a memoir, which was released by Harper Collins in 2017 – the book is called Unbound: A Story of Snow and Self-Discovery.
