In 2017, Justin and Bobby opened Better Luck Tomorrow, named one of Food & Wine and Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurants. This launched their equal-partner hospitality venture. In 2019, they opened Squable in Houston’s Heights, earning a 2020 James Beard nomination for Best New Restaurant. That same year, they founded Montrose Realty, managing diverse tenants from juice shops to longtime dive bars.
About Justin Yu
Justin Yu is a native Houstonian and Chef/Partner at Thorough Fare Hospitality, the group behind beloved spots like Theodore Rex, Better Luck Tomorrow, Squable, Anvil, Refuge, and Catbirds. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Justin has earned national acclaim, including a James Beard Award and recognition as a Food & Wine Best New Chef. Most recently, Theodore Rex received a Michelin Bib Gourmand. When he’s not in the kitchen, you’ll find him eating, traveling—and losing at fantasy football.
About Bobby Heugel
Bobby Heugel is a Houston-based restaurateur who helped transform the city’s cocktail scene with the opening of Anvil Bar & Refuge in 2009. Since then, he’s launched nearly 20 hospitality businesses, earning 17 James Beard Award nominations and national acclaim. Bobby also founded the OKRA Charity Saloon, which donated over $1.3M in profits to local nonprofits, and has been a leading voice in spirits regulation and industry ethics. A Forbes 30 Under 30 alum, Bobby continues to shape Houston’s hospitality landscape with projects like Refuge, Catbirds, and Last Chance in the Philippines.

Parking in the South Congress area can be competitive, especially on weekends. Arriving early or securing a parking spot in advance is advisable. Metered street parking is available along sections of Academy Drive and South Congress Avenue.
