An Adventure in the Welaka State Forest!
Overview
Liz and Welaka State Forester Aaron Levine will lead a 3-4 hour driving tour through the Welaka State Forest on the John’s Landing Forest Education Trail, just off from SR 309.
Note: We will meet at the Welaka National Fish Hatchery Aquarium parking lot at 8:00 AM to organize a carpool to drive to the start of our tour. There is plenty of parking at the Hatchery for those who choose to ride with another driver.
From the Aquarium, we use service roads to tour two different campsites overlooking Little Lake George (part of the St. Johns River system). We will bird each of the campsites but also be driving slowly enough to bird the roads as well.
Volunteer drivers would be greatly appreciated. As a forewarning, the service roads are accessible to two-wheel drive vehicles, but some portions may be rough.

This event is limited to 15 people.
To be properly prepared for this adventure, bring water, a hat, bug spray, and sturdy shoes or boots. We recommend waterproof shoes or boots because we will do a bit of walking. Also feel free to bring a snack as there are picnic areas (and restrooms) available.
We encourage you to consider joining the SJRA. You can join for as little as $15/year, which will help us continue and expand our work. To join the SJRA, visit this link: https://app.joinit.com/o/st-johns-regional-audubon
