About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

At a time when queer rights are under renewed attack across America, celebrating queer joy is not just radical—it’s essential. In a world flooded with headlines of struggle and erasure, we can uplift our real, lived moments of affirmation, connection, healing, and solidarity. Join the Chicago Playback Theatre Ensemble for an evening of storytelling and improvisational theatre that centers and celebrates your true stories of queer joy—shared by the audience, brought to life on stage. Because in times like these, joy is resistance.

Audience members are invited to share personal moments, which actors will “play back” through improv and music. Sharing is encouraged but entirely voluntary. Whether you tell a story or simply listen, all are welcome.

About the Chicago Playback Theatre Ensemble (CPTE):

CPTE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit theatre that facilitates community-building, dialogue, and healing by celebrating, validating, and honoring the stories of the communities they engage with. Since 2019, they’ve curated performances and educational workshops throughout Chicagoland. Unlike other improv, Playback is not focused on comedy. CPTE “plays back” and honors audience experiences of any kind, from the profound to the ordinary, or from the joyful to the sorrowful.
