Description

SPOKEN WORD: Poetry, Identity and the Power of Language

This workshop with internationally renowned poet, author, educator and performer, Amir Sulaiman, is offered as part of OneLife Institute's Transformative Visions series.

The workshop will explore how identity and perception impact the creative process. The objective is to aid in awakening the human consciousness to oneness through art and cultural contribution. Art is a highly effective way to understand oneself, express oneself, and in turn, understand others. Amir’s teaching principles aim to increase understanding of one another, as understanding facilitates peace and cooperation between peoples. As a master class instructor and workshop facilitator, Amir focuses less on the form and tools of poetry and more on the source of the poetry in the heart and mind of the poet/student. He assists the students in pulling away veils or masks and plunging deeper into their own true realities. The classes engage with the art of poetry as a practice in self-discovery.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Oakstop is conveniently located on BART and bus lines. If driving we recommend that you use one of the nearby lots, rather than street parking, since street parking is limited to 2-hours.
