About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

"American Panoramas" is a musical portrait of the connections between sounds, places, and traditions in the American landscape.

Latin Grammy-nominated pianist, accordionist and composer Sam Reider teams up with longtime collaborator, acclaimed Nashville-based bassist Jeff Picker (Nickel Creek, Ricky Skaggs, Sarah Jarosz).

Sam and Jeff first met each other as young high school jazz students. They eventually attended Columbia University together and founded a piano trio, connected by their shared interest in American roots music. Over the past twenty years their respective careers have taken them on parallel journeys through the American musical landscape. Now they reunite for a special program of jazz, folk and Americana music.

This will be an indoor performance so tickets are limited!

Reider's original compositions for the piano range from a quiet meditation on a High Sierra "Mirror Lake," to the euphoric, Keith Jarrett-inspired etude "Petrichor," (below) named for the fresh smell of the earth after a first rain. Alternatively pensive, bluesy, cinematic, and joyful, Reider's playing is "destined to spark your creativity, imagination and wanderlust for the natural world.” (Adrian Spinelli, San Francisco Chronicle).

The Henry Miller Memorial Library is a public benefit, non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization championing the literary, artistic and cultural contributions of the late writer, artist, and Big Sur resident Henry Miller. The Library tries to do as little as possible since we are in Big Sur a place very well suited for doing nothing. It turns out to be difficult however because Henry Miller is egging us on to promote the things he believes make life worth living like good conversation, freedom of thought, good food, sex and art in all its forms; old, new, weird and varied! Welcome!
