Artist Statement

ALTA/ER

Translation: tradition of removing relics of martyrs and saints from their original burial sites in order to deposit them under the altar. 

We are designed to break down. Somehow this frustrating combination of meat and mind has a drive to experience and interpret phenomena wholly outside its perception. We become the half mad curators of our own arbitrary associations. We collect our objects, imbue them with IDEAS/PHILOSOPHY/DOCTRINE, build our customized visual vocabulary. And sometimes we're encouraged by that feeling that we're onto something, living as we do in service to this hard wired drive to see meaning in the material...

So collect the teeth

Embellish the fingers

Prop up the bones

Build an altar

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I present my work as a three dimensional sketchbook you can step into. This room is filled with attempts at pinning something down that to date eludes me.
