Allegra Chapman at the Maybeck Studio

Pianist Allegra Chapman presents a Sunday afternoon recital telling stories of love, loss, and resilience.

The program features romantic piano miniatures from Robert Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn alongside a heartfelt suite by Harry Burleigh inspired by African American musical traditions, and the virtuosic and fiery etudes of Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz.

Each set of pieces strongly evokes an era and place while weaving a moving narrative. Allegra will also premiere several new works by Bay Area composer Benjamin Pesetsky.

The Music (selections)
Robert Schumann - Fantasiestücke, Op. 12
Fanny Mendelssohn - Vier Lieder das Pianoforte, Op. 6
Benjamin Pesetsky - For the New Year, Piano Ballade, and Intermezzo
Grazyna Bacewicz - 10 Studies
Harry Burleigh - From the Southland
