Do I have to attend all the events?

No, RSVP to the events you are interested in attending. No one is expected to attend all the events over three days. Attendees of all ages and backgrounds are welcome at all events.

All of the events are free and open to the public.

There is free parking along the main avenue in Oakwood Cemetery, entering from Comal Street. There is free parking along Comal Street on the east, and in the neighborhood near the 16th and Navasota Street entrance.

Do I have to have a relative buried in Oakwood Cemetery to attend?

This public event is to dedicate a new monument and honor the thousands buried in unmarked graves in the Historic Colored Grounds in Oakwood Cemetery. This section was segregated by race and class starting in the 1800s.

Are all the tours different?

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon, staff will give concurrent tours of the Historic Colored Grounds and the Oakwood Cemetery Chapel. These tours will repeat so different people have the opportunity to attend when it is convenient for them to do so.
