Come join us at The Nature Conservancy's Burnham Brook Preserve to explore our beautiful preserve and connect with nature!
All-Terrain Track Chairs are easy to use and operate and ensure visitors of all abilities can enjoy the preserve. Guests will be greeted by a volunteer and provided instructions as to how to use the chair. Once you have completed orientation, you may enjoy the preserve. Reservations(tickets) via Eventbrite are for chair users only, though anyone else is welcome to join on your exploration. Due to safety concerns, a staff or volunteer companion is strongly recommended to join your group when using the Track Chair.

The location of the Burnham Brook Preserve in East Haddam is 2 Dolbia Hill, East Haddam, CT. There is an open field at the end of road on the right, where a small parking area is accessed through a break in the stone wall. We will meet you at the pavilion immediately adjacent to the parking area.
No, Burnham Brook in East Haddam is currently the only location. The CT State DEEP offers all-terrain wheelchairs at several state parks. Please visit ctparks.com to learn more about the DEEP program.

Yes, there is a handicap-accessible porta-potty.
Children between the ages of 7-18 may use the Track Chair, but must be accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of 7 may not control the chair on their own. A staff member or volunteer will control the chair with a remote joystick.
No, only one person is allowed on the Track Chair.
Yes, staff may control the Track Chair for you during your visit

Due to the inherent risk posed by the Track Chair itself, and a concern for the safety of your pet or service animal, Track Chair operators are not permitted to possess pets/service animals while operating the Track Chair. It is not recommended that pets or service animals accompany you on the trip.
If it is necessary to bring your pet or service animal on the Track Chair trip, they will be required to be kept under the control of an accompanying friend or caregiver.
You may visit the preserve anytime during operating hours. But advance reservations are required to use the Track Chair.
Users must store their personal belongings and medical equipment (including transfer chairs) in their own vehicle.
Our all-terrain wheelchairs contain sensitive electronics which should not be wet. When inclement weather is likely, we will cancel reservations and ask that you reschedule.
There is currently 1.2 miles of trails available to visit. These pass through open fields and the surrounding forest. There are a variety of birds and plants to observe and different habitats, including a vernal pool. A vista trail is being planned for the future.
Yes, the user and any accompanying companion or visitors are required to fill out a standard waiver form.
