About Ali Modular & Esu's Trifecta

Ali Modular was founded by Jamar Ali and Chris Roberts out of a shared love for Eurorack modular synthesis and a passion for pushing its creative possibilities forward. Built on curiosity and hands-on exploration, Ali Modular combines thoughtful hardware design with powerful, intuitive software to create modules that are inspiring, expressive, and genuinely fun to use. Their mission is simple: to build the tools they want in their own racks—tools that surprise, open new creative doors, and deepen the joy of modular synthesis.

Esu’s Trifecta embodies this philosophy as a powerful stereo multi-effects Eurorack module designed for deep sound shaping and transformation. Combining delay, reverb, modulation, and distortion in a compact 16HP format, Trifecta functions equally well as an end-of-chain processor, a sound design powerhouse, or an experimental sonic manipulator. Inspired by the African orisha Esu—symbolizing balance, transformation, and creativity—the module encourages exploration through a balance of precision control and musical unpredictability. Designed for musicians, producers, and live performers, Esu’s Trifecta offers expansive possibilities for evolving sound in modern modular systems.

About Jamar Ali

Ali is a producer, sound designer, and hardware developer based in Washington, D.C. As a key figure in the MODBAP movement, he’s known for fusing classic Hip Hop rhythm with the raw, exploratory nature of modular synthesis. Self-taught in both electronic engineering and programming, Ali built his technical knowledge from the ground up—teaching himself how to design circuits, code digital effects, and build hardware tailored to his own creative vision. Through his YouTube series “How I Use It,” Ali breaks down his production techniques and module workflows, offering insight into his unique hybrid style that blends gear hacking with beat-making. His sonic signature is a blend of Boombap grit, Southern bass, West Coast funk, ambient textures, jazz theory, and modular unpredictability—tied together by hard-hitting drums and rich melodic layering. Ali pushes beyond the boundaries of both traditional Hip Hop and traditional modular synthesis, crafting a style that is at once deeply rooted and wildly futuristic
