About SPARCS:Since February 2023, 3x3, in collaboration with CUNY’s Center for Systems and Community Design (CSCD) and Partnerships for Parks, has been working to develop and launch co-designed, park-based programming in four New York City parks. This initiative explores how parks can serve as catalysts for improving residents’ physical and mental well-being.
SPARCS Goals:At its core, SPARCS examines how community-led activations in neighborhood parks can influence health-related outcomes. The study focuses on mental health and well-being indicators— such as anxiety, stress, and loneliness—as well as social and physical well-being measures.
About Al Quiñones Art Club:Al Quiñones Art Club was created in response to community feedback highlighting the need for more youth arts-based programming, increased opportunities for creative expression, and spaces that bring residents together across generations.
Throughout the engagement process, residents emphasized the importance of cultural programming that also reflects the South Bronx’s rich artistic heritage and provides a platform for connection, self-expression, and celebration.
The Al Quiñones Art Club will offer a series of free, accessible, and community-driven arts programs, including dance, music, theater, poetry and visual arts workshops. With the park’s amphitheater as a central hub, the program carries forward the legacy of advocacy and empowerment that has long defined this park and its community.
