AI for STEM Accessibility

AI for STEM Accessibility

By ASU Learning Experience Design
Online event

Overview

Explore AI-powered workflows to make STEM materials (equations, diagrams, mixed formats) more accessible and screen-reader friendly.

This 45-minute session is reserved for ASU faculty, staff, and Teaching Assistants.

This workshop will be held online and will not be recorded. The use of automated bots, AI assistants, or other meeting recording devices is prohibited without the prior approval of event coordinators.

-----------

STEM instructional materials often present accessibility challenges—such as handwritten equations, complex formulas, diagrams, and mixed-format documents—that are difficult for screen readers and other assistive technologies to interpret. In this workshop, participants will explore how AI tools can be used at ASU to address these barriers by supporting tasks such as transcribing handwritten equations, converting content into accessible formats, and improving compatibility with assistive technologies.

The session includes a brief presentation on common STEM accessibility issues, hands-on practice designing an AI-driven accessibility workflow using real examples, and time for questions and discussion.
