Event description

Description

This month we’re excited to welcome a stalwart of the San Francisco tech community - John Papandriopoulos, better known as jpap.

John is a proud Melbournian with over a decade of experience in San Francisco. He is currently Founder and CEO of Syncatron, an early-stage startup focused on privacy-first file synchronization and collaboration. Previously, John founded SnappyLabs, where he built a chart-topping burst-mode camera app that pushed the iPhone to speeds not seen before. Apple later acquired the company, and John joined the Camera Software team in Cupertino where he developed the HEIF image compression format, now used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

John earned his Ph.D from the University of Melbourne (2006) and is a celebrated Australian researcher. He received the Chancellor’s Prize for his dissertation on improving DSL broadband speeds, in 2007 was featured in The Age Melbourne Magazine’s Top 100, awarded Victorian Fellow in 2005 and the RMIT University medal for his undergraduate education in 2002. He is co-inventor of four patents (USA, Australia), acquired by Ericsson AB.

We're looking forward to hearing more about John's entrepreneurial journey!

Our thanks to our generous venue hosts Docusign.

AFN would like to thank the CSIRO and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission for their support.

We would also like to thank our AFN Affiliate Members: UNSW, University of Queensland, Startup Catalyst and the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX).
