A Cinematic Celebration of Surfing's Revolution: 50 Years Later with the Award-Winning Documentary Bustin’ Down the Door + Live Q&A
📍 Aero Theatre, Santa Monica
📅 Sunday, June 9th
Join us for a special one-night-only screening of the award-winning documentary Bustin’ Down the Door at the iconic Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
Set on Oʻahu’s North Shore in the winter of 1975, this powerful film chronicles the true story of a group of young Australian and South African surfers who risked everything to chase their dreams. Their aggressive new style clashed with local traditions and sparked a cultural revolution that gave birth to modern professional surfing.
Narrated by Edward Norton and featuring an unforgettable soundtrack with David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Leonard Cohen, the film captures the raw energy and fearless ambition of future world champions Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, Ian Cairns, Mark Richards, Shaun Tomson, and Peter “PT” Townend.
🎥 Stay after the screening for a live Q&A with Rabbit, Cairns, Richards, Tomson, and PT — a rare chance to hear directly from the legends who changed the sport forever.
🌊 Proceeds from this event will benefit the Surfrider Foundation Los Angeles, supporting their mission to protect and preserve the region’s oceans, waves, and beaches through activism, education, and conservation.
Don’t miss this 50th anniversary celebration of one of surfing’s most pivotal eras, right here in Santa Monica.
