630pm: Checkin begins
7-8pm: Screenings + Q&A
8-9pm: $5 beer and wine and mingling in the cafe!
Members of the KitSplit community working in virtual reality will show projects, answer questions, and discuss the trials and tribulations of working in this emerging medium, with a focus on nonfiction VR and making VR films for broad distribution. Screening of VR Films + FAQ will take place at 7pm with a happy hour, VR headset experiences and mingling at the IFP Media Center cafe to follow at 8pm.
The event is FREE but you must RSVP here, as space is limited and the venue requires a guest list.

Graham Roberts of The New York Times. Graham is a 4-time Emmy Award nominated Senior Editor at The New York Times, producing a wide range of visual journalism projects as part of the NYT Graphics team. Most recently his work has focused on new approaches in video, motion graphics, virtual reality, and immersive visual storytelling. Graham will show the 2 projects they have produced since the launch of NYTVR. The first, Vigils in Paris, transports viewers to the memorials and gatherings of healing that popped up around Paris in the immediate aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks. The second, The Contenders, puts viewers in the middle of the crowds at campaign rallies in support of the leading candidates as they make their pitches.

Debra Anderson is based in New York and Chief Strategy Officer and Founder of datavized, an immersive design and technology studio with a focus on strategy and production for Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and 360° desktop and mobile environments. She is a Producer/Director specialized in digital storytelling and media impact, building data-driven and researched based approaches to immersive experiences and next generation human-machine interfaces. She’ll’ be presenting an excerpt of In\Formation, a 25 minute 360° 3D (stereoscopic) live action immersive documentary about the potential of VR to inspire empathy in its audience.

Dan Archer of Empathetic Media. Empathetic Media is a media and technology agency based in DUMBO, Brooklyn, providing virtual and augmented reality storytelling solutions for education, news and advertising. Their team is led by graphic journalist Dan Archer, one of the pioneers in Virtual Reality journalism. Archer was a 2014 Reynolds Journalism Institute Fellow and a 2011 Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University. He will show an early walkthrough from Yo Sobreviví (I Survived), a cg-based VR project showcasing different perspectives from the Colombian conflict (the villagers, ex-FARC guerrillas and the paramilitaries), as they share their true stories of how the violence has affected them and their community as part of a pioneering restorative justice project. The project coincides with the culmination of the peace talks between the FARC and Colombian government in Havana, Cuba.

Jarrard Cole of The Wall Street Journal. Jarrard is a senior video journalist at The Wall Street Journal, graduate of the University of North Carolina, photographer, filmmaker, soccer player, and lover of the serial comma. He'll show a piece from New York Fashion Week. The Wall Street Journal used a 360-degree camera to film Jason Wu, best known for making Michelle Obama's inaugural gowns, in his New York atelier, showroom and backstage as he prepared his collection—then took a front-row seat as the show unfolded.
