About the artist

Manami Matsushita was born in Osaka, Japan, and started playing piano at the age of five. As a child, she won many top prizes in national piano competitions. During this time, she also trained in and performed chamber music. She made her piano concerto debut at the age of sixteen in which she played Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Osaka.

Manami studied at Osaka College of Music under Masatoshi Matsumoto and Shinya Okahara, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree with honors. She then studied under Bernd Glemser at the University of Music Würzburg (Hochschule für Musik Würzburg) in Germany where she graduated with a master’s degree as valedictorian of her class and later obtained a Konzertexamen—the highest performance degree offered at music conservatories—summa cum laude as valedictorian of her class.

Manami has won many top prizes in Europe and started performing concerts internationally in Japan and Europe during her time at university. When she returned to Japan after her studies in Germany, she devoted her time touring across the country, performing in prominent venues in across the country. She has recently moved to New York to immerse herself in a more international environment. She has performed at Carnegie Hall several times, and her New York solo debut recital at Opera America was featured prominently in the newspaper. Beyond performing, Manami is committed to education as a member of “Steinway Teaching and Educational Partner.”
