Advanced Improv Workshop: Creating Original Characters Through Improv
Overview
This class is recommended for anyone who wants to submit a character for Stomping Ground Comedy Theater’s monthly Not Myself Today character showcase!
Learn an organic approach to creating and embodying a fully developed character for a solo performance! In this three hour workshop, students will do a lot of character warm-ups and exercises focusing on finding the character’s game quickly without thinking too much about it. Students will receive feedback from their instructor about their character premises and beats that worked. This class is intended for students who have an improv background. The prerequisite for this course is completion of Level Four Improv at Stomping Ground Comedy Theater or equivalent training with permission from the Training Center Director.

- Getting comfortable performing alone onstage
- Finding the beats of a piece through improvisation
- Committing fully to character
- Building intensity through a solo performance
About Your Instructor
Lauren Davis is a performer and writer who has studied and performed improv, sketch, and comedy writing for a really long time in a lot of places, including Dallas Comedy House, UCBLA, and The Magnet Theater in NYC. Her standup has been featured on Hulu and Fox in the series "Laughs", and in the ViceTV series "Funny How?" She was a finalist at the Burbank Comedy Festival, a finalist at the Westside Comedy Showdown, and a regular host at Flapper's Comedy Club. She has taught stand-up comedy at both the Dallas Comedy House and Dallas Comedy Club and her curriculum has been used at both training centers. She really has the most fun teaching and wants you to have the most fun as well so that class is like a great party but with learning instead of alcohol.
This is a three hour class on Sunday, December 7 from 6-9pm. The instructor is Lauren Davis. All sales are final. Classes are non-refundable but enrollment can be deferred to a future class. All students must adhere to policies in the Stomping Ground Student Handbook. Must be 18 years or older.
