Advanced Beginner Sewing: Reversible Summer Bucket Hat

Summer is here! What better way to stay chill than a bucket hat that you made yourself? Use our fabric in studio or bring some of your well-loved clothing to upcycle. This workshop is beginner friendly and is a great opportunity to learn the basics of sewing and end up with something usable. We will cover topics including:

• Operating a sewing machine
• How to cut fabric with a pattern
• Using a sewing pattern
• Sewing curves
• Right side vs wrong side of fabric
• Pinning fabric
• What's seam allowance and how to use it

Minimum age: 10+ yrs
Duration: 2 hours
Note: If you plan to bring fabric yourself, please follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth experience:

• Denim, khakis, flannel or cotton is highly recommended. Please do not bring jersey T-shirts, silk, knits, faux fur, faux leather or anything that's stretchy, fuzzy or slippery because they're difficult to work with for beginner sewers. If you're not sure, feel free to ask us.
• Overall you'll need 1.5yard of fabric or the equivalent of an average pair of pants.
• We also recommend bringing at least some light fabric such as cotton or flannel so your hat doesn't get too heavy.
• If you are planning to upcycle a piece of clothing, we recommend items that don't have a lot of complex curves and folds. Items with large panels of flat fabric are much easier to reuse.
• Wash your fabric before the workshop to prevent shrinkage
• Iron the fabric in advance or bring it to the studio to iron
