During the clinic, we will focus on many skills to help you gain confidence, ride better, and go faster in a safe effective way…with so much FUN!

We will review important skills like:

  • Body Positioning, balance, and stability
  • Vision on the Bike, trail awareness
  • Controlled Braking-wave braking
  • Slow tight turns/with a ratchet
  • Bike body separation-leaning to turn
  • Cornering- berms and flat turns
  • Seated climbing/shifting
  • Down hill descending
  • How to FALL safely/with a roll down

We will build on the basics first to help you be more confident on the mountain. You will need to bring your own mountain bike and bike helmet. Both are required to participate.

*Minimum of 5 people per class, refunds will be given if less than 5 are registered.

Frequently asked questions

What To Bring: Mountain Bike and Helmet

Please make certain your bike is in good mechanical condition. If you aren’t sure, we recommend having it tuned by your favorite mechanic so it is in top form. A bike helmet is also required - must be a bike-specific helmet!

What To Bring: Hydration Pack & Snacks

You will want plenty of water. Please come with a hydration pack or backpack with filled water bottles & ready to consume. Bringing a water bottle with an electrolyte drink mix can also be nice. Bring any snacks you may want in your pack for on the trail.

What To Bring: Tools for a Flat & Spare Tube

Please bring a spare tube that fits your bike’s tire size. Our instructors carry tools for minor trailside repairs, but we strongly recommend that you own and bring your own trailside repair kit. At a minimum, this kit should include a pump, tire levers, and a multi-tool.

What To Bring: Flat Pedals

For off-trail skills and drills, it can be helpful to ride with flat pedals. Bring your clipless pedals too if you are used to riding in them. Make sure you have two separate pairs of shoes – the ones that go with your clipless pedals & the ones that go with your flat pedals.

What To Bring: Appropriate Clothing

Our area is fortunate to receive all kinds of weather! From wet and cold to very hot and very dry. Please check the weather before your lesson and dress accordingly. Layers are recommended if it'll be cool in the early morning and warm in the afternoon.

What To Bring: Riding Gloves, Leg and Arm pads

We ask everyone to arrive with bike gloves. Armor (Leg & Arm Pads) are optional but can be nice for protection & confidence building.

What To Bring: Sunscreen and Sunglasses

Even though the temps may be cooling down sun protection is still important!

What To Bring: Adjustable Seat Post

Though not required, we do recommend them for increased safety and fun.

Are There Bathrooms?

Yes! We'll be riding and practicing at the Trackline, but there are restrooms just down the street, about 1/4 mile away. 485 Exchange Rd, Ogden, UT 84401

Is this for women only?

No. For our adult class, we wanted to open it up to all adults as those are the inquiries we've been getting. We will be taking surveys to see if there is enough interest in an all-women class in the spring.

What if I can't ride a bike?

Then this class isn't for you. We will only be teaching MTB-specific skills that build upon existing bike riding skills. Being able to ride a bike is required to join the class.

What if I don't have a mountain bike?

There are two great places to rent MTB bikes in the Ogden area, you can rent one from WSU Outdoors (https://www.weber.edu/outdoor/bike-rentals.html) or The Bike Shoppe (https://www.thebikeshoppe.com/) if you're coming from outside of Ogden, search mountain bike rental+the city your in to find one

What To Bring: Gratuity

Although it's not required, tipping your coach is greatly appreciated!
