About this event

This is a support group for adoptive parents to share their joys and challenges and receive support from each other and a trained facilitator. We have childcare available to reduce barriers to families who want to attend. The group is facilitated by a social worker and foster and adoptive mom - Alyse Jeter Harris, MSW.

We welcome families who are part of Regional Post Adoption Services (RPACS) and those who are not engaged with services. We have information about RPACS at each meeting for interested families. In addition, if your family is in the process of adopting youth placed with you in foster care - we are happy to have you join this group. It is an open group to any adoptive family regardless of family configuration (single, married, interracial, LGBTQ headed, etc) and type of adoption (kinship, foster care, international, infant).

If you have any questions about the group you can reach out to Jennifer Surratt at (804) 928-9399 and she will be happy to discuss with you.

Frequently asked questions

You have childcare available. What age children are you able to care for?

We are open to providing care to toddlers through teens! Unfortunately, we don't currently have the staffing to provide care for infants or youth needing full 1:1 support.

My child isn't potty trained. Can they still come?

Yes. For youth who are not potty trained or require assistance with toileting we will come get parents out of group to handle toileting needs and/or diaper changes.

What staffing qualifications are held by those who are watching the children/youth/teens?

All providers or volunteers are background checked and have training in supporting youth using trauma-informed approaches. There is always at least one full time C2Adopt staff as the lead each month.

What can my children expect?

We have pizza, games and crafts as well as a movie during the support group time. We strive to have enough staff that youth can be free to choose the activity that interests them. Some prefer to be able to sit and watch a movie, while others prefer to play board games or craft. We make it FUN!

My family has dietary restrictions. Can you accommodate those?

Unfortunately, we have a limited budget and so our dinner provided is pizza each month. If you have specific dietary needs, restrictions or allergies, we ask that you bring your own food. We appreciate your understanding.
