About this event

Arts • Comedy

The Adoptee Film Fest is proud to champion Adoptee filmmakers who have created films centering and exploring the Adoptee identity and experience, all of which our selections embody.

We are proud to debut our Features program this year consisting of 3 films selected by 10 adoptees from around the world who make up our Features Selection Committee. We are honored to be hosting the NYC premiere of ‘Because She’s Adopted’ by Kristal Parke.

Please join us for a screening of the film, followed by a Q&A, moderated by Sullivan Summer, with ‘Because She’s Adopted’ filmmaker and subject Kristal Parke.

About ‘Because She’s Adopted’
Kristal, a Cree adoptee from Kelowna, must come to terms with the complicated reality of her adoption. She embarks on a journey to find the missing pieces but when tragedy strikes, her grief yields a new perspective.

Kristal delves deep into her own life story while also weaving together the narratives of other adoptees from diverse backgrounds. Through heartfelt interviews, poignant storytelling, and powerful visuals, the film offers a touching and introspective exploration of what it truly means to belong, and the universal longing for a sense of connection and acceptance.
