Adobe After Effects remains the leading tool for creating motion graphics. This beginner-friendly course introduces participants to the fundamentals of the program, starting with core animation principles and a guided tour of its interface and features. Students will then learn to work with essential tools, including layers and keyframing, to build a strong foundation in After Effects. Students will have the opportunity to create their own animations under the guidance of the instructor. By the end of the course, they will gain a solid understanding of After Effects fundamentals and an appreciation for the wide-ranging possibilities of motion graphics.
What you will learn:
Animate text, logos, and graphics for videos and social media platforms.
Build a strong foundation in animation principles and keyframing.
Apply compositing techniques including keying, mattes, masks, and more.

TEACHING ARTIST: Samory Henry
Samory Henry is a Motion Designer with a background in graphic design, photography, animation, and video production. He currently works at the National Association of Realtors, where he creates motion graphics for a wide range of digital and event-based projects. His role includes mentoring junior motion designers, casting, and ensuring creative consistency across campaigns. Samory built his foundation as a designer and photographer by working for local small businesses and nonprofits in the DC area before turning his focus fully to motion design. Over time, he developed skills in 2D and 3D animation, and video editing, using tools such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Blender 3D. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from the University of the District of Columbia and a certification from School of Motion’s Animation Bootcamp. His work has been recognized with awards from MUSE and Graphic Design USA Product Design. Samory’s approach to motion design is grounded in clear communication, thoughtful pacing, and purposeful movement, bringing visual ideas to life in ways that engage and inform audiences.

Docs In Progress is a nonprofit that supports documentary filmmakers through workshops, feedback screenings, and fellowship programs. It helps filmmakers develop skills, refine projects, and engage with the community through film. The organization engages audiences and connects the local community with documentary films.
What's the refund policy? If your circumstances change and you must withdraw from a class after registering, please be aware of our refund policy:
Withdrawal 20 or more calendar days before the first day of a program: 75% refund
Withdrawal 11-19 calendar days before the first day of a program: 50% refund
Withdrawal 10 or fewer calendar days before a program: No refund
In case of refund requests, the registrant will incur all Eventbrite fees.
