Description

CHADD of Northern VA and the District of Columbia and the ADHD Resource Group of Northern VA Present:

“ADHD and Screen Time: Turning Problems into Solutions”

In recognition of ADHD Awareness Month, we will be addressing technology across the life span. While the Internet is a beneficial tool and some technological advances provide innovative ways to learn and share information, misuse has become a problem. The focus of this event will be to provide information, solutions and resources to parents of children, teens, young adults and adults as well as ADHD professionals who treat those suffering from Internet addictions.

Keynote Presentation- Edward Spector, Psy.D., "The Healthy Use of Technology"

Technology can enhance our lives in many ways. It can make us more effective, productive and efficient. It also can entertain us and can help us connect with others. Unfortunately, when used to excess, technology can negatively impact our lives. Some individuals are unable to effectively limit their use of electronic media. The excessive use of electronic media can be an attempt to cope with significant psychological problems, such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, or social skills deficits. Dr. Spector will present on the healthy use of technology, including common forms of electronic games (computer, video, phone apps), the Internet (including the use of social networking sites and online communities), and the use of smart phones.

Following the Keynote Presentation, you will have the opportunity to attend one of three sessions targeting specific technological concerns relating to children, teens, or adults.

1) Dr. Adam Pletter, Clinical Psychologist, "Overcoming the Challenges of Digital Parenting;"

2) Joseph D. Cabush, LCSW, "Teens, Tech, and ADHD: All You Need to Know;"

3) Abigail Wurf, M. Ed., PCC, "Technology and App Solutions for You."

*A panel discussion of experts follows the presentations to allow for interactive participation with the audience to broaden the learning on positive and negative impacts from various perspectives.

Additionally, at several exhibit tables, you’ll have time to visit representatives of local organizations and businesses associated with ADHD and responsible screen time. A free continental breakfast will also be available for attendees. (Sponsors and exhibitors may also look at options for participating in this event by clicking on the green Tickets tab on the upper right corner of this page.)
