Join AD EX to hear from 2024 Swank Traveling Fellow Kael Fineout, who will share discoveries from his travels in Italy.

Kael explores the historic plastering technique scagliola, a hallmark of Baroque and Rococo architecture. During his intensive study in Italy, he investigated its materials, techniques, and applications—from altars and columns to decorative wall panels—capturing both its artistic beauty and technical complexity. His project seeks to preserve this nearly lost craft through an open-source guide, combining historical background, step-by-step instructions, and high-quality photographs to make the knowledge widely accessible.
