Addressing Risk and Promoting Resilience in the Construction Workforce

Learning Objectives:

Quantify the financial and operational impact of unaddressed stress, burnout, and suicide within the construction industry—linking job-related pressures, extended hours, and industry norms to measurable business risk.

Understand early detection and intervention as strategic tools to reduce liability, downtime, and turnover—highlighting the return on investment of structured support systems and awareness training.

Identify leading indicators and red flags associated with mental distress, including behaviors driven by isolation, substance misuse, and financial strain—critical for timely leadership response and loss prevention.

Apply evidence-informed practices to recognize and address suicide warning signs—focusing on leadership response protocols, resource pathways, and how to escalate appropriately within legal and ethical frameworks.

Support a resilient workforce culture by reducing stigma and proactively integrating employee support services (e.g., EAPs, peer networks, and third-party resources) into standard business operations—protecting people, projects, and profitability.
