Add Variety to your Native Garden: Try some Lesser Known Species

with Ben Pick

Wednesday, July 30 |  10 am - 12 pm

BREG - Elective

Lesser known doesn't mean less valuable. This class will go over some underused native plants that merit more attention from gardeners and a spot in our gardens. We will look at individual plant profiles and how and where to use them in the landscape. We will also discuss different local sources for these plants.

Ben Pick, a resident of Asheville, grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina which certainly contributed to his love of the outdoors and the natural world from a young age. He started working in a local garden center in his early teens and then moved to landscape work during summers through high school. After obtaining a horticulture degree from NC State University, he spent the next 10 years working in a variety of horticulture jobs, including positions in world-class gardens across the US and abroad, learning a wide range of gardening skills and practices. He now uses this knowledge locally at his nursery and in classes he teaches.
