Equity in Action: Avoiding Racial Equity Detours in Educational Leadership - Myra Gardea-Hernández, Lisa Reece, and AnneMarie Mason - Room 461
Many well-intentioned equity initiatives actually mask racial inequities while consuming resources meant for real change. Based on Paul Gorski's research, this interactive session helps educational leaders identify four common "equity detours" that can perpetuate the very racism they claim to address. Leave with a personalized equity audit, an action plan draft, opportunity to connect with an accountability partner, and tools to avoid racial equity detours in decision-making.
Inclusive Practices - Including the MESS, the MUCK, and the MORE! - Cristina Romero – Room 463
Inclusion is more than a buzz word we are typing in bold font on our SPSAs, placing in our vision statements, and highlighting in our newsletters. But as we commit to the work of true inclusion, we can sometimes encounter unexpected obstacles that make it feel messy, mucky, and MORE than it is benefitting. Let's take a moment to navigate the mess and the muck, in order to get to the MORE that inclusion will provide for ALL!

A Journey to Effective Embedded Intervention in Elementary - Carrie Duckart - Room 463
Explores the evolution of embedded intervention strategies in HUSD elementary schools since 2016. Initially designed to provide necessary support for all students while eliminating pull-out programs, the initiative faced challenges, leading to increased costs and a lack of structured implementation. Since 2022, our program has achieved notable success, thanks to the establishment of clear expectations that guide our intervention practices. This session will delve into our journey, highlighting key lessons learned and effective strategies for fostering a supportive learning environment.
