In this coming-of-age film, 15-year-old Wojtek travels to Sweden from Poland with his parents to work on a farm picking strawberries, where the discomfort of the work and its lack of security begin to open his eyes to a system of inequality. As he bonds with his fellow migrants, a chance encounter with the farmer’s daughter, Anneli, leads to an unexpected connection — and before long the two are meeting in secret, hiding their relationship from family and friends as love begins to blossom.

But when the subtle inequities lead to escalating conflict between the Swedes and the guest workers, Wojtek and Anneli find them trapped on opposite sides. And as the slowly brewing war erupts into sudden, violent confrontation, the young lovers must learn to face reality. Directed by Wiktor Ericsson (Sweden, 2017).

About the Director

Wiktor Ericsson is a Swedish screenwriter and film director living in Malmö in the South of Sweden. His narrative feature film debut Strawberry Days premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it won the ADL Standup Award, a prestigious award from the United States’ premier human rights organization. The film was released in Sweden in the summer of 2017 and was met with rave reviews. It was selected to be screened at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival as part of the Variety Critics Choice section. Ericsson’s feature film debut, the documentary A Life In Dirty Movies, had its international premiere at the London Film Festival and was released theatrically in the U.S. in the fall of 2014. The film has been sold to U.S. Netflix and Showtime. Ericsson worked recently as the dramaturgist on the script for Hannes Holm's Academy Award-nominated film, A Man Called Ove.
