Overview

We are pleased to invite you to the ACPA 2025 Drug Development and Regulatory Science Webinar Series #3, titled
“Casual Exposure–Response Analysis of Real-World Data.”

This webinar will feature Dr. Yanguang Cao, Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Cao’s research focuses on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacometrics, with over 80 peer-reviewed publications in these fields.

In this session, Dr. Cao will discuss how to move beyond simple associations to uncover true causal relationships between drug exposure and clinical outcomes using real-world data (RWD). The talk will examine the conceptual distinction between causation and association, highlight common sources of bias such as confounding and selection bias, and address the challenges of exposure–response analysis when concurrent events—such as dose adjustments, treatment switching, adverse events, or disease progression—occur over time.

Participants will gain practical insights into designing and interpreting causal analyses that improve clinical and regulatory decision-making in real-world settings.
