Acoustic Oscillators Workshop #1 welcomes creative people of all types and tech levels.

Come explore the possibilities of physical sound and oscillators for immersive environments, acoustic synthesizers, architecture, sculpture, musical instruments, and more.

This first Acoustic Oscillators Workshop focuses on air column oscillators like organ pipes, corrugaphones (whirly tubes), thongophones (the Blue Man Group instrument), pyrophones (flame organs), and more.

We begin with a science module about the physics of waves and how they interact to produce tones.

And will will play with one or two examples of three-dimensional wavefields - which change as you move your body through them.

No code. No speakers. Just air, waves, tones, and textures.

Classes are mostly slides, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises. Class sizes are small to allow for open discussion throughout the workshop.

disclaimer: These workshops will cover everything seen in the promotional video, and more. But the vibe is more like a hands-on art/science classroom than the disco-ball-lit, experiential wonder of the video.

free ticket available: I have one free spot open for a documentarian/assistant. This is available to a photographer or videographer with a professional portfolio. They can participate but must also help with hand-on exercises and get some good clips and snaps for promotional use. They must meet me here at the studio for a couple of hours for an orientation some in the week before the class.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take this workshop remotely?

Not yet. This subject is best learned hands-on and ears-on. But I will start remote workshops in related subjects before the fall.

What shall I bring?

I suggest taking notes on paper if you are comfortable doing so.

Is there a policy about screens?

Participants are asked to keep their phones down unless taking photos or using them for the workshop's hands-on exercises.

What's for lunch?

We usually order some Indian food and share it in the studio conference room.
