ACE Basin Property Tour-Botany Bay HP/WMA
Overview
Join SCDNR Staff on a tour of the ACE Basin where we explore the cultural and natural resources found throughout Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area. This tour will cover the history, ecology, and purpose of Botany Bay HP/WMA as we walk down the causeway for a guided beach walk and explore the property highlighting the cultural and natural resources SCDNR strives to preserve and protect. There is a chance of seeing some great wildlife, so don't forget your binoculars or you can borrow ours!
Please note that this is a very remote area as it is a WMA and there are no facilities such as restrooms. Due to limited space and high demand of program, we ask that you only attend one ACE Basin Property Tour event per year.
Details for the event:
• Trailer tour: The property tour will take place in a trailer and will include up to one mile of walking. We will get on and off the trailer several times throughout the tour. Due to limited space, all participants must register through Eventbrite.
• What to bring: Dress is casual. Check the weather report and dress appropriately as you will be outside. Other items to consider bringing include binoculars, hat, sunglasses, sunblock, bug spray and reusable water bottle.
• Cost: The program is free of charge.
• Weather: Tours are held rain or shine unless hazardous weather occurs. An email will be sent out day of if event needs to be canceled.
• Parking: Once you enter into the gates of Botany Bay, please check your vehicle in at the front kiosk. Drive 1 mile up at the road and meet at the "Check Station" (look for SCDNR truck & trailer).
SCDNR Marine Resources Division Public Program Event Policy- Our free public programs are in high demand and there is limited capacity, do not reserve a ticket if you cannot commit to attending this event. If an attendee cancels their ticket without a valid excuse and/or is a no show, SCDNR has the right to refuse the attendee to participate in any SCDNR public program for a year.
