What is Scrum Ventures?
Scrum Ventures is an investment platform focused on early-stage startups — sourcing industry-changing companies and supporting their global growth through investment and co-creation activities, in partnership with its network and corporate partners in Japan. The firm has invested in over 130 companies across four funds in the U.S. and Japan, spanning sectors such as Mobility, Fintech, IoT, VR, Commerce, and Healthcare.
What is Sakura Deeptech Accelerator?
The Sakura Deeptech Accelerator is a core initiative of Sakura Deeptech Shibuya, a new deeptech innovation hub in Shibuya, Tokyo. It is a global accelerator program designed to support deeptech startups through collaboration with world-class partners. The program is managed by Scrum Studio, known for its success in driving startup investment and open innovation through a robust network in the U.S. and Japan.

About Michael Matsumura
Michael Matsumura joined Scrum in 2023 and is a partner at the firm. Previously Michael worked at SoftBank Corp., where he led minority investments into early stage B2B and B2C technology ventures. At SoftBank he also led the due diligence work of various large strategic transactions in the TMT sector. Prior to SoftBank, Michael led various commercial consulting engagements across Southeast Asia at The Lantau Group in the power and gas space. Prior to that, he was at Arup, where he coordinated various engineering consulting engagements across the power and gas space in Asia. Michael started his career at Citigroup in Japan in 2007. He holds a MSc. in Sustainable Energy Technologies from Delft University of Technology and a BSc. in Physics from UCL.

Sakura Deeptech Acceleratorは、東京・渋谷に新たに誕生したディープテック・イノベーション拠点「Sakura Deeptech Shibuya」の中核プログラムです。世界有数のパートナーと連携し、ディープテックスタートアップを支援するグローバルなアクセラレータープログラムとして展開されます。本プログラムは、Scrum Studioによって運営されており、同社は米国・日本における豊富なネットワークを活用したスタートアップ投資およびオープンイノベーションの実績を持ちます。

登壇者紹介：マイケル・マツムラ氏
2007年、日興シティグループ証券入社後、機関投資家向けの株のポートフォリオ取引を担当。その後、オランダのDelft Energy Initiativeで再エネ研究プロジェクト、気候変動モニタリングプロジェクトに携わる。その後、Deltares(独立研究機関)で地熱や太陽熱を利用した地域暖房ネットワークを研究。
2013年にArupに入社、CCGT発電所やLNG基地等のエンジニアリングプロジェクトのPMOを担当。
2016年にThe Lantau Groupに入社。アジア全域の多数の電力・ガスプロジェクトの経済コンサルティング、デューデリジェンスや市場調査案件を担当。
2019年にソフトバンク株式会社入社。戦略投資案件やマイノリティ純投資案件のビジネス・財務DDに従事。ソフトバンクグループやビジョンファンドとも連携し多数の案件を担当。2023年スクラムベンチャーズに参画。脱炭素やサステナビリティ分野の投資を担当。英国UCL大学物理学卒、蘭国デルフト工科大学ステナブルエネルギー技術修士、CFAチャーターホルダー。
