About the Bootcamp:

The Asian American Federation (AAF), in partnership with the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), is excited to present the 2022 AAPI Advocacy Bootcamp. Hosted by the Global Strategy Group (GSG), this program is intended to support Asian-serving nonprofit organizations in building advocacy skills to navigate an ongoing pandemic, systemic racism, and a dynamic political landscape. The program is structured as a six-week bootcamp consisting of six webinars and corresponding office hours for additional support.

Sessions:

1. Executive Positioning

Date: Tuesday, January 18, 3:00–4:30 pm EST

We will demonstrate why executive positioning is important, help you evaluate your current positioning, and give you the tools you need to give you and your executive team a bigger platform to champion your cause.

2. Media Training

Date: Tuesday, January 25, 3:00–5:00 pm EST

We will help prepare you for success at your next media opportunity, regardless of medium. Learn how best to deliver your message and stay on message so that you can win all your interviews.

3. Reactive Communications

Date: Tuesday, February 1, 3:00-4:30 pm EST

Learn how to insert yourself into conversations that you are most knowledgeable about, correct the record when appropriate, and position yourself to be a leading expert on the issues.

4. Political Advocacy

Date: Tuesday, February 8, 3:00–4:30 pm EST

We will provide you with a framework for persuading politicians by utilizing effective public affairs strategies and tactics. We will cover everything from planning out your advocacy strategy to coalition-building, to developing and managing your communications.

5. Digital Campaigns

Date: Tuesday, February 15, 3:00-4:30 pm EST

You will receive a framework for planning your future campaigns, including what channels to use and when to use owned vs. paid media. We will also spotlight what metrics you should pay attention to so that you can better measure your campaigns’ effectiveness.

6. Storytelling

Date: Tuesday, February 22, 3:00-4:30 pm EST

We will help you optimize your storytelling skills by showing you how to organize your strategic thinking and business communications into stories that stick. You will learn best practices for creating meaning with visual elements and utilizing design to command attention so that you can effectively engage with your audiences.
