AAC Fundamentals, Modeling and Implementation

During this session, participants will learn the basics of augmentative alternative communication, including low/mid/high tech, how it is selected for a client, and funding options. Low tech discussion will focus on visual supports and low tech AAC. High tech will focus on different software. Both topics will include training on Aided Language Stimulation Strategies and modeling for implementation of AAC, and general implementation strategies for use at a school/center, and home.

Learning Objectives:
As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:
· Identify different types of AAC (low, mid, high tech) and provide examples of each
· Discuss what motor planning is and how we use it to teach communication
· Identify at least 3 ways that professionals/communication partners can support a child using AAC
· Demonstrate understanding and implementation of Aided Language Stimulation Strategies
· Demonstrate understanding of visual supports
