Bathed in golden light and scented with lavender, the southern French region of Provence has long captivated the imagination of artists, writers, and travelers alike. Beneath its tranquil beauty lies a region shaped by centuries of creativity, faith, and human endeavor — from Roman builders and medieval pontiffs to modern masters of art and expression. It’s time to journey through the landscapes, legends, and living traditions that embody the very soul of France.
Join New York Adventure Club for a three-part series through Provence, where art, history, and daily life intertwine across France's most storied cities. In Part Three: Aix-en-Provence, we’ll explore a city celebrated for its fountains, elegance, and artistic spirit — a place where centuries of architecture, culture, and creativity continue to define the Provençal way of life.
Led by tour guide Kelsey Betzelberger, this experience — featuring plenty of firsthand photo and video walkthroughs, intriguing anecdotes, and expert insights — will include:
- A look at Cours Mirabeau — Aix’s grand boulevard lined with leafy plane trees and graceful fountains, reflecting centuries of civic pride and sophistication
- An overview of Aix’s markets — vibrant open-air gatherings filled with produce, flowers, and local goods that capture the colors and flavors of Provençal life
- A discussion of Paul Cézanne’s Aix — the artist’s connection to his hometown and the landscapes that inspired his masterworks, including Mont Sainte-Victoire
- An exploration of architectural heritage — baroque churches, aristocratic mansions, and hidden courtyards that tell the story of Aix’s evolution from Roman colony to cultural hub
- Insights into culinary traditions — specialties like calissons, tapenade, and regional wines that celebrate Provence’s enduring connection between land and table
Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with Kelsey — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
