A University with Different Perspectives: Bring Light, Not Heat
Event Information
Description
Guest speaker Debra Mashek has spent two decades studying how people form relationships with each other. Now, as Executive Director of the Heterodox Academy, she describes herself as a heterodox enthusiast who values, speaks out, and creates open inquiry and viewpoint diversity both professionally and personally. Although she was reluctant to leave her tenured professorship at a top liberal arts school, Mashek is powerfully drawn to the mission of Heterodox Academy. She became its first Executive Director in January 2018.
Watch this short video about viewpoint diversity - then, join us for an engaging discussion about the intricacies and effects of what viewpoint diversity looks like at our universities. The program will include a presentation by Dr. Mashek, followed by table conversations about the topic.
This event is sponsored by the CSUSM American Democracy Project, Office of Inclusive Excellence, and Library.
