About the Artist
First generation Nigerian American painter and art educator, Dunnie Onasanya, presents "A Heart in Every Home" at it's core, this exhibition explores home not just as a physical space, but as an emotional and spiritual sanctuary. For Dunnie, the heart represents the soul of family: a place where we are seen, held, and celebrated. Each piece is a visual offering, honoring the love we come from and the love we create.
The heart is also a universal symbol recognized and felt across languages, cultures, and borders. No matter where you are in the world, when you see a heart, you feel it. In a time when the world feels heavy with division and uncertainty, Dunnie's work calls us back to love. She believes we all need more beauty, more connection, and more spaces that affirm us on a soul level.
Onasanya's work is heavily influenced by her West African heritage, her faith, and an intuitive approach pulling from abstract expressionism, hamsas and other historic symbols using movement, vibrant colors, metallic pigments, gold leaf, glass, and jewels.
