A sustainable future for METASPACE: Let’s talk about what’s changing

Since 2014, we have grown METASPACE into a leading software platform for spatial metabolomics, now used by more than 5,000 users. However, with popularity, the costs of developing and maintaining it grew substantially. In particular, processing and supporting private submissions not contributing to the public knowledge base became increasingly costly. While we’ve been fortunate to receive generous grant support, grants cannot fully cover these increasing costs.

Today, to ensure the platform’s long-term sustainability and continued growth, we're introducing a new structure:

We’re splitting METASPACE into two distinct software platforms: METASPACE Academic and METASPACE Pro.

METASPACE Academic offers a free engine for metabolite annotation and hosts a public knowledge base of spatial metabolomes.

METASPACE Pro is a subscription-based cloud software for spatial metabolomics based on METASPACE.
