About this Event

Collective Future (Eric Holdener and Ronni Kimm)—in collaboration with Henry Fisher and Anna Rose Hopkins of Hank and Bean, Vera Mulyani of Mars City Design, and Kerenza Harris of SCIArc—invites you to participate in a speculative dinner to explore the future of food and agriculture on Mars.

Human habitants could arrive on Mars as early as 2030, building a new civilization with radically different values and constraints as those on its twin planet, Earth. This speculative meal offers a provocative challenge for our near future of Mars exploration as not only a scientific expedition, but also as a second home for humans.

The dinner is an opportunity to experience what life as a new citizen of a Mars city could look like, through the lens of food. Throughout the evening, guests will have the chance to interact with agricultural processes, a Martian pantry, and the roles they may take on in Mars, while exploring enduring memories related to food, and the way new cultures and rituals form.

Our chefs will invite guests into their process, offering a peak into Mars-grown produce and zero-waste livestock—all while introducing Martian "first foods”. Diners will then be invited to enjoy a rolling family-style meal, exploring courses created with Martian staples, as well as new rituals around dining in a Mars city.

Guests are encouraged to bring a recipe of their favorite meal to explore how it might evolve on Mars, as well as a bottle of wine (optional). After registration, please anticipate further communication about your upcoming trip to Mars.

Infinite Dimensions: AR/VR Workshop

If you are interested in further exploring the design of a city on Mars, please consider the Infinite Dimension AR/VR Workshop. This dinner exists alongside the workshop, a two-day design and technology exploration the conditions and solutions for designing for Mars

On Sat, March 30, for students, architects, and anyone else interested in designing for Mars, you can participate in a workshop led by Kerenza Harris (Morphosis, SCIArc). A seminar and public exhibition follows on Sun, March 31.

Seminar speakers will include Dan Berman (NASA/Planetary Science Institute), Keely Colcleugh (Kilograph), David Gull (Outer Realm VR), and Jacki Mori (Pioneer in VR/AR since the 80s).
