Description

A New Reality: A Vision of Hope for a World in Transition

Please join the UC San Diego Library for a discussion and book signing with psychiatrist Jonathan Salk on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the Seuss Room in Geisel Library. Light refreshments will be served. Copies of the book will be available for purchase from the publisher. This event is free and open to the public.

In the new book, "A New Reality: Human Evolution for a Sustainable Future,” Jonathan Salk and David Dewane take a look at the problems presented by population growth and changing human values. The book is a revised version of an earlier publication Jonathan wrote with his father, visionary scientist Jonas Salk, who developed the polio vaccine.

At the event, Salk will discuss how we’re transitioning from a time of competition, independence and win-lose strategies to a time of cooperation, interdependence and win-win strategies as population growth slows down and reaches stability. Salk argues we have the ability to create new ways of relating, new social, political and economic systems that meet the needs of all human beings in the different conditions of the future.
