A Gathering Guide (to Whitstable)
Date and time
Description
A Gathering Guide (to Whitstable) is a narrative and exploratory walking event offering an alternative view of Whitstable. Organised as part of the Whitstable Satellite programme running alongside Whitstable Biennale 2016, Louisa Love invites members of the public to join a collective journey through the town which will experiment with the potentialities of walking as an accumulative act of discovery, connection, collection, conversation and observation.
Various details, actions, objects, observations, sounds, stories, historical facts and fictions will be excavated by the artist within the different terrains and locations of Whitstable – intimately exploring items in Whitstable Museum and library collections to curious beach matter, alleyways, street corners and shop frontages – to compile an experiential ‘catalogue’ offering new and curious engagements with the town and its everyday material.
As an extension of the walk, the artist has also produced a downloadable audioguide track guiding visitors more independently on a similar narrative walk around Whitstable. The track is available to download for the duration of the Whitstabel Biennale festival.
Meet on Whitstable beach near Keam's Yard Studio Gallery at 1.15 for a 1.30 start.
The walk will be fairly easy and the terrain will be flat, but please wear sensible footwear suitable for variable ground.
