Overview

A Fresh Look at Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA): Counterwill and Self-Led Parenting with Lisa Weiner

In this 2-hour workshop, Lisa Weiner will give an overview of Counterwill - the instinct underlying the popular PDA diagnosis. When we understand the Counterwill instinct - what its natural and healthy purposes are, how to read it in any given child and why it can get stuck -  we have so much more clarity, choice and compassion in responding to our kids and teens with PDA.

Lisa Weiner, MSN, is a nurse practitioner, faculty member at the Neufeld Institute (NI), NI certified parent consultant and L3 IFS Practitioner. Using her mastery of the Relational Developmental Approach articulated by Dr. Gordon Neufeld Lisa supports parents in deeply understanding attachment and the conditions conducive to the unfolding of emotional health and maturity in their children and teenagers. When parents have “parts” of them that get in the way of being able to provide what their children need, Lisa skillfully weaves IFS into her sessions so that parents can befriend these parts.

In addition to parent consulting, Lisa is a much loved teacher of Neufeld Institute classes, where she teaches to an international audience with her down-to-earth blend of humor, story and ability to make complex and nuanced theory accessible and inspiring. Lisa is also a writer, editor and speaker. You can learn more at her website.
