A Festival of Light: Advent Lessons & Carols at Christ Church Cathedral
By Christ Church Cathedral
Overview
Begin the Season of Expectation: Experience the Rich, Century-Old Tradition of Advent Lessons and Carols in Downtown Houston.
Christ Church Cathedral invites you to one of the most anticipated and beautiful celebrations of the year: our annual Advent Lessons and Carols service, featuring the renowned Cathedral Choir.
Following a centuries-old pattern established over 100 years ago at King’s College, Cambridge, this service weaves together the solemn prophecies of the Old Testament with uplifting carols that herald the arrival of Christmastide.
What to Expect:
- A Beautiful Musical Journey: The Cathedral Choir will lead us through a rich selection of Advent anthems and carols, filling the historic Cathedral with exquisite sound.
- The Story of Hope: The service follows a traditional pattern of nine short readings (lessons) that tell the story of God’s promise and the anticipation of the Messiah.
- A Perfect Introduction: This is a wonderful, contemplative, and accessible service—a perfect way to introduce friends and family to the beauty of the Cathedral and the depth of the Episcopal/Anglican tradition.
- Warm Fellowship: Immediately following the service, all are invited to join us for a special reception in Reynolds Hall.
Start your Advent season with peace, contemplation, and glorious music.
