Join the National Civic League for a webinar about Nextdoor, the neighborhood app for trusted connections and the exchange of helpful information, goods, and services. Robbie Turner, Nextdoor Public Agency Partnerships Lead, will provide an overview of Nextdoor and how they are collaborating with cities and counties to help them build strong ties with their neighborhoods and increase civic engagement. Janelle McGregor from the City of Tampa’s Community Partnerships Division will also join us to discuss ways the city has used Nextdoor to work more closely with neighborhoods and engage residents.
Meet Our Speakers
Robbie Turner, Public Agency Lead, Nextdoor.
Over the last 8+ years, Robbie has spent time working with city, county and state departments across the United States to help them adopt Nextdoor to inform, educate and activate their residents.
Prior to working with Nextdoor, Robbie mentored entrepreneurs who were in the early stages of starting up high tech businesses. Before that, she was an executive at Sun Microsystems, Inc. where she held several leadership positions in Marketing, Product Management, Sales Operations and Finance in Dallas and in the San Francisco Bay Area. Robbie has a Masters in Decision Sciences and an MBA from Georgia State University.
Janelle McGregor, Community Partnership Manager, City of Tampa, FL
Janelle McGregor is an award-winning communications professional and community builder. Prior to her recent appointment as the Community Partnership Manager for the City of Tampa, Janelle served as the Tampa Police Department (TPD) spokesperson. Since starting her career with TPD in 2004, Janelle has consistently demonstrated a knack for establishing quality relationships between citizens and police through one-on-one communication and social media. In her role as an Assistant Public Information Officer, she blended her knowledge of the department’s policy and procedures with her community relations experience to bring added value to the position.
In 2016, Janelle’s role expanded to overseeing a team of community outreach liaisons who coordinate the department’s involvement in more than 500 special events and neighborhood meetings throughout the year. In addition to her employment with TPD, the Florida Attorney General’s Office contacted Janelle to create an instructional session on best practices for law enforcement to connect with the public through social media. Since July 2013, she has trained more than 500 students representing law enforcement agencies and private corporations throughout the state.
Janelle’s portfolio features several national awards from the National Association of Government Communicators and the social media platform Nextdoor for her renowned ability to engage with community members online. Her accolades also include numerous local honors for her work in spearheading efforts to positively impact residents, particularly children in the city’s impoverished neighborhoods.
