A Curated Afternoon at Historic 98 Main Street (Museum on the Green Members Only)
Monday October 27, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Join the Falmouth Historical Society for an exclusive, members-only event at the historic Nathaniel Shiverick House, located at 98 Main Street in the heart of Falmouth Village. Built in 1812 and thoughtfully renovated, this home blends early 19th-century craftsmanship with modern updates.
Highlights include original wide pine floors, four fireplaces, and architectural details that speak to its long history. The house also features a white beadboard and stainless-steel kitchen, solid wood replacement windows, fresh clapboards, and tasteful interior and exterior painting. Outside, the upper lawn offers a view of bustling Main Street, while the lower garden provides a private retreat ideal for entertaining.
Steeped in lore, the home has revealed curious artifacts during its renovations, including a child’s shoe from the late 1800s—possibly belonging to Gregory Shiverick, who died in infancy—placed in the wall as a superstition for good luck. The current owner also discovered two bottles of Prohibition-era whiskey, adding to the house’s colorful story.
The event will include a brief presentation by the Historical Society at 3:15 PM, guided tours of the property, and a libations and cheese reception. Admission is free for members, but pre-registration is required to ensure availability. Donations to the Society’s annual appeal in support of our education programs are always appreciated.
