About this event

Arts • Dance

What does contemporary dance have to do with geopolitics? In the 1990s, there was a common belief that “Europe” needed a cultural foundation. Culture would be the glue that could hold the continent together, as the“peace dividend” enabled investment in culture rather than military might. At the same time, dancers experienced an evolution in both culture and practice in the studio, a microcosm of the spirit of transformation on the continent. This event contextualizes emerging practices of collaboration and creation in concert dance at the end of the 20th century, while also reflecting on and enacting the creative potential of collaborative research and practice in the arts and humanities today.

The event will be presented in two parts. The first half features a conversation with historian Tara Zahra and movement artist Meredith Dincolo. The second half will be a movement workshop. Space for the workshop is limited, so we encourage you to register early.
